Kennedy, City Engineer .yf ~ ; ` SUBJECT: Request for Encroachment Under 15th Street by ~ _~, - ---- ., ~ Santa Monica Hospital, --- ~• Transmitted herewith is a letter dated November 6, 1970 from Mr. Robert Craig, Executive Director of Santa Pflonica Hospital, requesting permission for the hospital to place certain heating and cooling utility lines under 15th Street to provide service from the central power plant of the hospital to a proposed medical office building to be located on the northvrest corner of 15th Street and Arizona Avenue. As stated in said letter, the lines would be installed in a utility tunnel approved by the City Engineer and at sufficient depth to avoid interference with existing or proposed utilities, There are at present sanitary sewer, water, and gas mains in this portion of 15th Street. No new utilities are contemplated. It is recommended that the City Council be requested to approve this request for underground encroachment, subject to the approval by this office of the design, location, and depth of the utility tunnel. CRAIG Executive -irector November 6, 1970 Mr. Perry Scott City Manager City Hall .~7ar,t3 T~ivnlCa, CniifvrnfH~ Dear Mr. Scott: We respectfully request permission be granted to the Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center to run certain heating and cooling utility pipes, underground, from the east side of 15th Street to the west. side of 15th Street. Utility pipes will consist of the following: i - 6" dia. steam supply at 15 lbs. pressure. 1 - 22' condensate return line, no pressure. 1 - 6" dia. chilled water supply at 50/75 lbs pressure. 1 - 6" dia. chilled water return at 50/75 lbs pressure. These pipes will be installed in a utility tunnel, of a type to be approved by the City Engineer. and at sufficient depth to avoid ariy interference with existing or proposed public utilities located beneath 15th Street.. The purpose of this utility .tunnel will be to service a proposed medical. .office building to be located on the north/west corner of 15th and Arizona, on property already owned by the hospital. The lines will be connected to the central power plant of the hospital, for which expansion plans are being prepared at the present time. All details of that portion of the utility tunnel which will be located within public property would be in accordance with the requirements of the city engineer, Mr. Kennedy. Engineering plans for this work, of course, cannot be prepared until we receive City of Santa Monica approval of the concept.
