Recommendation for Encroachment Permit - lgth Street,
S. E, of Santa Monica Boulevard (Jim White Pontiac)
Transmitted herewith is the "Field Report and
Recommendation for Proposed Building Encroachment" for
a steel building located on the lgth Street frontage of Jim White
Pontiac, 1gO8 Santa Monica Boulevard.
This permit legalizes an existing steel building which
was built, through a combination of errors, six (6") inches
onto City street right of way on lgth Street
The building does not impede the use of the sidewalk
by the public. The encroaching portion can be removed in the
future if need arises.

LOCATION: N.E. side 19th St., dust S.E, of Santa Monica Blvd.
Jim White Pontiac, 1808 Santa Monica Blvd.
CONSISTING OF: 6" encroachment into lgth St. by existing steel
bldg. 31 feet long & 14 feet high. See attached
letter.
RECOMMENDATION: Building was built in this location as a result of
a series of errors. Encroachment will not interfere
with public use, and can be removed if the need arises
in the future.

Request-for 6" encroachment on city ~iroperty paralleling 19th ~a~Te.
with a 31ft. width typeIV steel building. This was determined on
final city inspection.
2. Amount or extent of proposed encroachment is 6" of a 31 ft.
12ft cave height type IV steel building. Top of building. is
14ft. high above sidewalk.
3. Justification
a. 6" encroachment still leaves approximately. l8" to the inside edge _
of sidewalk.
b. existing survey points were used which is also the -probable
reason. why this was not realized on the foundation inspection.
c. survey points parallel existing building but apparently do
not parallel the city curb.
d. 19th ~e is a.5~'t. wide residential street as it exists now
and there would still be 13 1/2 ft. from city curb to existing
building. The existing building is approximately 18" inside
the. existing sidewalk. With this remaining.:; sidewalk clearance
it would be no hinderance to pedestrian traffic.
47ith trese facts it appears unlikely that the city would widen the
street to any extent in the next decade to where there would appear
the necessity to reduce the building 6 inches.
The error is a combination of owners survey points, building contractor,
and city inspection for foundation, and realizing it is only 30' of
type IV steel building, the building could be shortened if the need
should arise in the future.
