Kennedy, Director of Public jdorks ~''~~ ~~~yyi`5~0'{b ~~i~`~~~ SUBJECT: Request for Encroachment at Broadway and 18th Street y This office has received a request from Smith and Smith, Architects, for permission to encroach beyond the property line of both Broadway and 18th Street with footings for a retail store and office building for the Santa Monica Meat Company (Ratner Bros). In compliance with the procedure set forth in the City Manager's memo of December 12, 1963, subject "Procedure for Handling Requests for an Encroachment Permit", there are transmitted herewith the Application for Building Encroachment Permit, as submitted by Smith and Smith, together with the favorable recommendation of the Building Officer, Planning Director, and myself. The requested encroachment will consist of Tee-type column footings, the top of which will be 2' below sidewalk grade. The maximum en- croachment will be 1'-8" into Broadway and 1'-11" into 18th Street. It is recommended that the City Council be requested to authorize the issuance of a permit to excavate and construct footings as outlined above, said permit to be subject to the following conditions: 1) That Santa Monica Meat Company deposit with the Department of Public 64orks cash or surety bond in the amount of 800.00 as a deposit guaranteeing restoration of any City property damaged by their con- tractor during the construction of the building, said cash or bond, less the cost to City of restoration, if any, of City property, to be returned to Santa &ionica Meat Company upon final completion and approval of said building by the Building Officer of Santa Monica, 2) That Santa Monica Pleat Company furnish. one set of "as built" drawings sho*rring the extent and elevation of encroachment of said footings into the City streets.
