SUBJECT: Closing of 7th Court on School Days between
California and Washington Avenues
At the request of St. Monica's Church, the City Council,
at its meeting of September 1, 1864 (Item 8-J),authorized
the closing of a portion of 7th Court, between Z+Tashington
and California Avenues, from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. on school
days.
The portion to be closed started 100' southeast of Washing-
ton Avenue and ended 150' northwest of California Avenue.
The remaining portions could not be closed since there
were privately owned properties abutting these portions
of the alley.
The church, at its expense, installed gates at both ends
of the portion to be closed. Keys to the locks on these
gates were furnished to the Fire, Police and Public Works
Departments.
The privately owned property at the Washington Avenue end
of the alley was acquired sometime ago by St. Monica's
Church, and the church rectory has been built on this
property. This office has received a request from the
Alcorn Fence Company, on behalf of Father O'Flaherty of
St. Monica's Church, to relocate the northwesterly gates
to a new lacation at the Washington Avenue property line,
It is recommended that this request be approved, provided
that St. Monica's Church apply for a permit and pay all
costs involved in removing and reinstalling the two gates.
Said permit should be revokable at any time.
Transmitted herewith is a map showing the portion of the
alley presently closed and the additional portion proposed
to be closed.
