SUBJECT: Resolution of Chamber of Commerce re Certain Traffic Safety Recommendations The Chamber of Cornraerce; by Resolution of its Board of Directors adopted November 11, lg6g; suggested the installation or.modification of certain traffic signals and signs at various locations. These suggestions, and the recommendations of the Traffic Engineer and myself thereon, are listed below: 1} i'Install~a traffic light at the corner of Fifth Street and Colorado Avenue. ~rde concur iri this -recommendation, and recormmend, in addition, that concurrently with the signal installation Fifth Street, from Colorado Avenue to Olympic Boulevard, be made one-vray northbound. ;'1e t~rould propose to include this signal in the 1870-71 traffic signal program. 2} "Install a sign on Olympic Boulevard at Ninth Street reading "Dead End Street" vrhich can be read by traffic proceeding wrest on Olympic." Tvro such signs presently exist, one of twhich v-will be relocated to face in the suggested direction. 3) "lrtove the left-turn green arrovr at the Lincoln overpass and eastbound freevray ingress from the third lane to the second lane." This is a State highvray and the signal locations and indications are controlled by the State. Hovrever, we cannot reco~~nrnend to the State that this change be made, since the existing indications conform to State standards and are typical of similar installations throughout the area. The green left-turn arrovr is lighted only vrhen tine through. traffic green light is lighted, and merely signifies that, from the proper lane, a left turn may be made. 4) "Investigate the necessity of installing.a traffic signal at the intersection of Ashland and Neilson ~rTay." ^lhis intersection does not meet trafr'ic signals. ;^ie recommend cc: Parking & Traffic engineer the warrants for the installation of against such an installation. *~" BARTLETT L. ~TEDY City Engineer
