Proposed Guard Rail Installation - 23rd and Dewey Streets

As you know, since the intersection of 23rd Street-Dewey

realigned to reduce traffic congestion there have been
several accidents at this location due to speeding cars
This series culminated last week-end in a rash of accidents
resulting in damage to three homes -- two on the south side
of De~rrey Street in Los Angeles and one on the west side of
23rd Street in Santa Monica. Had a vehicle been southbound
on 23rd Street at the time of the latter accident it could
well have resulted in a head-on collision with possibly
fatal results.

This office has contacted the Traffic Department, City of
Los Angeles, with a request that they: proceed with safety
measures along the portion of this street in Los Angeles.
The estimated cost of the above construction in Santa
Monica, by contract, is y~2720. It is recommended that the
City Council be requested to appropriate the necessary funds
to finance this project.
