The City Ccuncil, at its meeting of May 28, lgo8 (Item, 7-F ),
in-response to a request froi~~ the Chamber of Commerce, in-
structed the administration to study and. report on the need
for traffic signals at 2nd and Arizona and modifications to
e<.isting signals at nth and Arizona,
Follo~Ting is the Acting Traffic engineer's -repport and recora-
n:endati on
''Due to the existence of numerous _pedestrian generators
in the vicinity of 5'ch .Street and Arizona Avenue (Post
Office, banks, and utility campanies, etc.), there is
sufficient iedestrian activity to vaarrant the addition
of G~ralk, Don€t 'dalk signal indications to the existing
traffic signal system in operation.
€€xOWev2r, d.ue t0 the anti Cjui ty Of th.2 eX1St7.Ylg Signal
system?, it uroald be recommended that any modif iea'cions
such as recuested be installed only as ~oart of a general
r,odern;zat, ion and updating of th.e traffic. signal equip-
;;;ent at this intersection.

damage only. The fifth vaas a personal injury of a r?ino-r
nature due to the collision of a rnotoreycle a7ith a ear."
Therefore, in vieml of the minimal accident record and the
failure of the intersection to fully satisfy the basic
•var-rants _pe-rtaining to traffic volumes, it is the recommenda-
tion of this office that both signal projects - signalizaL'ion
of the irate-rsection of 2nd and. Arizona and. pedestrian control
indications at ath and. Arizona - be considered, aloe; vaith
ot_ner intersections, at some future date rather than disrupt
the existing priorittr list of traffic signal iraprovelents.
