SUBJECT:" Closing of 7th Court on School Days between
and ?nashington Avenues.
A meeting has been held between the City Administration
and Msgr. O'Flaherty, Pastor of St. Monica's Church,
concerning the closing during school days of 7th Court,
which bisects the church property. Our investigation
reveals that through traffic in this alley does consti-
tute a hazard to children attending St. Monica's
Elementary and High. Schools.
The Catholic Church owns all of the property on both
sides of this alley, with the exception of two parcels.
These two property owners have indicated their willing-
ness to go along with this project. However, as both
properties require access from the alley to existing
carports, the entire alley cannot be closed. An
acceptable solution would be to install gates in the
alley at the southerly end of the Angelino property
allowing access from Washington Avenue, and at the
northerly end of the Trask property allowing access from
California Avenue. This would result in 350 feet of the
600 foot alley being closed during school days.
It is recommended that permission be granted for this
closure, provided that
1. Approval is obtained from the owners of the Angelino
and Trask properties.
2. S<t. Monica's Church apply for a permit with the City
and pay for the complete cost of installation of the
two gates according to City specifications. Said
permit to be revokable at any time.
3. That keys to these gates be furnished to the City for
use by emergency and refuse collection vehicles.
Transmitted herewith is a map showing the alley proposed
to be closed.
