As you know, included in the 1964-65 budg3~of '~ ~°~ =`~ °~r
the Street Division are funds in the amount of X15,500
to finance the widening of the subject streets between
the limits of Freeway bridge construction and Michigan
Avenue. (See attached memo dated August 8, 1963 for
detailed explanation).
The State, at the request of this office, has
negotiated with the Griffith Company to perform the
subject widenings and has obtained a price of not to
exceed $10,000 for the work. The precise figure will be
determined by actual units of work performed.
Construction of the 11th Street bridge will be
completed shortly, and the State has informed me that the
Griffith Company must know by the end of the week whether
their proposal is accepted.
In view of the savings, both in money and in
time, that will result from the work being done by the
Griffith Company, it is my opinion that the City's
interest would not be served by calling for bids for this
work.
Therefore, it is recommended that the City
Council waive the call for bids and authorize the execution
of a contract with the Griffith Company for the widening of
11th Street, 14th Street, and 17th Street, from the limit
of State-financed construction to Michigan Avenue, at a
cost of not to exceed $10,000.
