SUBJECT: Revised Summary of Unexpended Gas Tax Funds and
Proposed Street Improvement Projects.
In addition to street opening and widening projects previously
approved by the Council, the County Board of Supervisors has
appropriated $123,500 to finance one-half of the cost of two
additional street widening projects.
It would be appropriate at this time for the City Council to
indicate its approval of these additional projects and to
authorize the expenditure, at the proper time, of the State Gas
Tax Funds available for this purpose but inadvertently not yet
appropriated by the Council.

In addition, the City Council has not approved, for expenditure of
Gas Tax funds, the widening of N:ontana Avenue from 21st Street to
25th Street, and of 14th Street, from ?~Tashington Avenue to D3ontana
Avenue,
Ir: vie~~t of the current empr~asis on ecology, and the Council's often-
expressed concern over tree •removal, it should be pointed out that the
tiro County projects t^rill require t'r?e removal of all street trees
U.*ithin the limits of both prrojects,
It is recommended that the Gity Council be requested to approve the
?widening of 2~iontana Avenue and of 14th Street, as described above,
and tc approve the expenditure, at the appropriate time, of the above
$403,427 of su}°plus and unbudgeted State Gas Tax funds to co.~~plete
