Kennedy, City Engineer ~ ¢ ~~ ~ Ao SUBJECT: Traffic Islands at 101 Ocean Avenue. ~o q ~ ~ , ~ rt . ~ 'i'` As you t know, this office, in cooperation with the office of the Los j Angeles Gity Engineer, has worked out a plan for the reconstr uction of the subject traffic islands that will permit legal left turns from Ocean Avenue into the apartment building without jeopardizing the safety of the general motoring public. The plans provide for the following: (1) Complete removal of existing islands, (2) Construction of new islands extending a considerable distance into Los Angeles, (3} Construction of Portland cement concrete curbs on all islands. (4) Southeasterly island to be landscaped with low shrubbery. (5) Northwesterly island, being too narrow for landscaping, to be surfaced with Portland cement concrete, (6) Appropriate traffic warning devices and signs to be installed where required. The estimated cost of the above work is X4,880. Since both Los Angeles and Santa Monica will benefit from the project, it is suggested that the City Council authorize. this office to accomplish the work, either by contract or by force account., with the understanding that Los Angeles will reimburse Santa Monica for one-half of the cost. If this proposal is approved, this office will proceed forthwith with the construction of the project. t~ ~~CG~~ ~I 6't.f~a~,c~ BARTLETT L, KENNEDY City Engineer
