SR-101271-9GCITY OF SANTA MONICA ITE- T ET E DATE TO: FROM: October 1, 1971 Perry Scott, City Manager Bartlett L. Kennedy, City Engineer ~~ SUBJECT: Pedestrian Overcrossing Over California Chain-Link Fence Railing, Reference is made to my memo dated July 8, 1871 relating to the subject overcrossing--a copy of which is attached. On July 27, 1871, the City Council appropriated $1,050 (Item 8-C) for the construction of a chain-link fence over the subject overcrossing, as recommended in the reference memo , This $1,050 was an informal quotation received from a fencing company, and was made without a thorough examination of the overcrossing, The Engineering Department prepared detailed plans and submitted them to the Purchasing Department i.ri order for them to solicit bids. The request for bids asked for prices of three (3) different kinds of chain-link fabric: 1 Aluminum Coated, 2 Vinyl Coated and 3 Galvanized. Quotes were also requested for a pipe handrail for the protec- tion of the pedestrians. This was an alternate bid that can be deleted if desired, Following is a summary of the two bids received: 1. Aluminum Coated Fabric 2, Vinyl Coated Fabric 3. Galvanized Fabric 4, 12" Pipe Handrail Santa Monica Fence $1,g19.1g 1,868.13 1,844.82 631.60 Alcorn Fence $2,6g4,oo 2,664,00 2,594.00 666.00 Date: October 1, 1971 Page 2 Subject: Pedestrian Overcrossing Over California Incline - Chain-Link Fence Railing. It is the recommendation of this office that the vinyl coated (green) fabric be used, and that the handrail also be installed. Therefore, it is recommended that the subject work be awarded to the Santa Monica Fence Company in the amount of $2499.73 as follows: 111 £eet Vinyl Coated Chain-Link Fabric @ $16,83 ................... $ 1,868.13 111 feet lz" Pipe Handrail-Lump Sum ........ 631.60 Total Bid ..................... $ 2,499.73 Contingencies ................. 250.00 Total ......................... $ 2,749.73 Call .......................... $ 2,750.00 Funds Available ............... 1,050.00 Additional Funds Required ..... $ 1,700.00 Prior to said award, it will be necessary to appropriate additional funds in the amount of $1,700 to complete the financing of the project. ~".
