StTBJECT: West Coast Transportation Company Request for Ten
Cent Rate Charge on One-Sixth Mile Interval .rather
than Twenty Cent Change on One-Third Mile Interval
Pursuant to Council request, we have been advised by the taxi cab com-
panies that the cost per meter for changing from the one-fifth mile rate
block to the one-t~.ird or the one-sixth mile interval would be as follows:
1 am advised by West Coast Transportation that the cost of
changing from the 1/5 to a 1/6 mile rate block (retaining a
10~ charge} would require a cost of approxima-tely $6. 20 per
meter for the changeover. The same firm estimates that it
would cost about $55. 20 per meter to change from the 1/5 to
the 1f3 mile rate block with a fare increment of 20~.
Apparently the difference between the change from the 1/5 to
the 1/6 mile rate block retaining the 10~ fare requires only
the change o£ two wormed gears which can be installed with-
out dismantling the meter. The change from the I/5 to the
1/3 mile rate block with a 20t fare would require a change i.n
the rate drum and necessitate disassembling the meter,

of 20~` per 1/3 mile to a rate block of 10~ per 1/6 mile wo.ild not materialize
change the total cab fare. Although checking the comparative rates at
the point of rate change on the 1/3 mile rata block indicates the same cost,
a more complete comparison cn the rate change point for the 1/6 rate
block indicates that the fare for intermediate points of 880 feet or less

would produce a total faze of 10~` more on the 1/6 rate "clock than on the
