Subject: Purchase of Biodiesel Fuel
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that City Council approve an extension of the current purchase order
with General Petroleum Corporation to supply and deliver B20, B50 and B99 biodiesel
fuel blends to the Big Blue Bus Department and the Fleet Management Division for a
sixty day period beginning January 24, 2009.
Executive Summary & Discussion
General Petroleum Corporation is the current supplier of biodiesel fuel through January
23, 2009. On December 2, 2008, Council considered the award of Bid #2956 to
General Petroleum Corporation for the purchase of biodiesel fuel for a six month period
with a one year renewal option. At that meeting, Council requested additional
information regarding the bid process and the environmental impact of biodiesel fuel to
ensure that the selected firm was reflective of the City's goal of considering the entire
carbon footprint of the bid award. Council also requested additional information
regarding the impact of the various types of biodiesel fuel on the City's fleet. Staff will
be returning to Council in January with the additional information requested. In order to
ensure an uninterrupted supply of biodiesel fuel to the City, it is necessary to execute an
extension of the current agreement with General Petroleum Corporation.

Funds in the amount of $523,420 are available for the two month extension as follows:
• Fleet: $64,168 in account 54554.522910, "Vehicles-Fuels/Lubrication"
• BBB: $458,334 in account 41.111008, "Fuel-Revenue Vehicles"
