Subject: Amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Santa Monica
Firefighters Local 1109 IAFF
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City
Manager to execute an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
between the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Firefighters Local 1109 IAFF.
Executive Summary
The current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Santa Monica Firefighters
Local 1109 IAFF (Local 1109) does not expire until June 30, 2010. The City and
Local 1109 agreed to open the MOU to revise Section 3.01 (Health Insurance),
Subsection A (Medical Insurance). Currently, Local 1109 members are making a
$35.00/month contribution into a Post Employment Health Plan (PEHP) and are also
paying $150.00/month towards the. cost of their medical insurance premiums. With the
revision to the MOU, the City will make the $35.00/month contribution into the PEHP,
and Local 1109 will increase their payments towards the cost of their medical insurance
premiums by $35.00/month.
Financial Impacts & Budget Actions
The amendment to the MOU will have no budget/financial impact to the City since the
City's contribution into the Post Employment Health Plan (PEHP) will be offset by the
increase. in Local 1109's contribution towards. the cost of their medical insurance
premiums.
