Subject: Western Regional Housing Summit
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that the City Council designate a Councilmember to represent the
City at the Western Regional Housing Summit, sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development on August 25 - 26, 2008..
Executive Summary & Discussion
On August 25 - 26, 2008, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) will sponsor the Western Regional Housing Summit in Universal City. HUD
plans to highlight the City's affordable housing production and preservation efforts at the
conference, as well as in HUD's pre-conference newsletter. Housing and Economic
Development staff will speak at the .conference. In addition, HUD has requested
participation by a Santa Monica Councilmember. As a result, staff is requesting that the
Council designate a member to participate in the conference. Staff will provide the
designated Councilmember with background information and draft comments.
Financial Impacts & Budget Actions
Funds for travel expenses and registration fees, if necessary, are available in the
Housing and Economic Development Department budget.
