Background: This item was recommended to the City Council for their approval by the P.ecreation and Parks Commission at the City Council`s January 16, 1975, meeting. This property is owned by the Santa Monica Parking Authority and was purchased along with an adjoining parcel to allow the construction of parking structure "F". This was done because the property necessary for the parking structure had an existing building covering both lots. Park IIse: The City Attorney is in the process of rendering an opinion on the necessary steps to be taken by the Parking Authority a~.1d the City Council to allow this to be developed as a pocket park or to be sold for other :i.~~_~s. The property is .directly across from the do~,mtown redevelopment project and currently consists of a ground covering of decomposed granite. ±t is the :~ecreac:ion and Parks Director's minion chat this property can be utilized to the benefit of the City as a temporary park at a relatively rziTiimal expenditure. The cost for the development would be approximately 55,Or)0 and the overall maintenance thereon can be assimilated 4oithin the existing -structure of the Parks Division. Purchase Offer: Subsequent to the Council meeting of January 16, 1975, a potential buyer has expressed interest in purchasing this property, This alterm native should be explored before committing this property for interim or permanent park use. Should sale of the property to a private party not occur, the Council can reconsider the request for park development. Alternative Solutions: 1. Approve the development of this park at Fourth and Broadway, Authorize the preparation of specifications by Engineering and the issuance of a ca11 for bids. Appropriate $5,000 from b1AR unappropriated funds. 2, Consider this .project during the 1975-76 budget year discussions. 3.
