Subject: Modification to Professional Services Agreement with Sussman Prejza
Recommended Action
Staff requests an increase to Professional Services Agreement (PSA) number 1349 with
Sussman Prejza and approval of a new PSA with Sussman Prejza for a total increase of
$140,000 to complete the new bus design for Mini Blue and for general design services.
Executive Summary
Staff is requesting an increase to .PSA number 1349 in the amount of $55,000 to further
develop several new design concepts for the Mini Blue brand and the new buses that
will soon be available for this service. Staff also requests a new PSA be established for
Sussman Prejza in the amount of $85,000 for general design services.
Background
Sussman Prejza has been instrumental in the development of the current Mini Blue
brand and has developed the current vehicular graphics found on the existing Thomas
buses as well as the targets and on-street signage. Their valuable expertise will ensure
that as we move forward in creating new designs for new bus styles that the branding of
the Mini Blue is kept consistent. In addition, Sussman Prejza has an outstanding design
reputation and their firm will be a valuable resource for general design services on a
variety of projects.
Discussion
Since the elimination of the "trolley style" bus, staff has been working to develop a new
branding for the Mini Blue buses for Council's review and comment. Sussman Prejza, a
design firm that has been instrumental in creating the branding of many of the City's
1
departments, including the design of the Rapid Blue Bus and the current Big Blue Bus,
has been the firm developing vehicular graphics for the new Mini Blue buses. Currently
there are six 'styles' in early development.
General Design Services
A competitive bid process was followed requesting an hourly rate to provide graphic
design services for a variety of projects that include but are not limited to: educational
wall displays and development of pricing boards for Blue, the Transit Store;
development of on-street signage for the transit mall and the Westside advanced
travelers project; other outdoor signage such as eye-levels, schedules and maps; and
other promotional and public projects. Of the four bids that were received, Sussman
Prejza has been selected for their competitive fees and outstanding experience and
work history.
Previous Council Actions
In April 2005 Council approved an agreement with Sussman Prejza for the Rapid 3
service in the amount of $67,800.

Professional Services Agreement number 1349 was entered into in 2006 with Sussman
