SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Contract for City Hall Roof
Improvements
Introduction
This report requests that the City Council award a contract for
improvements to the City Hall and Police Department roofs to
Bryant Organization, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, in the
amount of $14,277.
Background
Various areas of the City Hall and Police Department Building
roof are proposed to be repaired, replaced or improved this year
and next year. For FY 1985-86, the City Council approved $22,770
which will improve approximately 15 percent of the total roof
area.
A Notice Inviting Bids was published on February 12 and 13, 1986,
in the Evening Outlook and in five construction journals. The
notice was also sent to four minority business associations.
Plans and specifications were issued to eight contractors. Bids
were opened and read publicly on March 17, 1986, by the Deputy
City Clerk.

Two bids were received as follows:

Engineer's Estimate: $15,000
City staff checked the references submitted by the low bidder.
The persons contacted were satisfied with the work performed by
Bryant Organization, Inc.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Award a contract for the improvements to City Hall and Police
Department roof to Bryant Organization, Inc., the lowest
responsible bidder, in the amount of $14,277; and

2. Authorize the City Engineer to issue any change orders
necessary to complete additional work to the extent of funds
available in accordance with the Administrative Instruction
on Change Orders.
