Subject: Award of Bid for Carpet
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that the City Council award Bid #2935 to M & M Floor Covering Inc.
in the amount of $ 147,207 to provide carpet for the Civic Auditorium Division of the
Community and Cultural Services Department.
Executive Summary
Award bid to M & M Floor Covering Inc. for the purchase of carpet, at specified prices,
plus applicable sales tax, in the total amount of $147,207.
Discussion
Background
The Civic Auditorium replaces its carpet every three years due to routine wear from
staging a variety of events. The new carpet being recommended for purchase is
manufactured with approximately 38% recycled content and the old carpet will be
recycled as part of the total bid.

Vendor Selection
In July 2007, the City published Notices Inviting Bids to provide carpet in accordance .
with City specifications. Bid forms were mailed to sixteen vendors and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Five bids
were received and publicly opened on September 17, 2007 per Attachment A.
Bids were evaluated based on competitive pricing, bid response, and product
availability. Based on these criteria, M & M Floor Covering Inc. is recommended as the
best bidder.
Budget/Financial Impact
Budget authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement Budget account
0320585.589000 -Civic Auditorium Carpet Replacement.
