J-\A-\ IiDV 1 2 1985 CA:R}rn:lld054/hpc Housing Authority Meeting 11-12-85 Santa Monica, California STAFF REPORT TO: Housing Authority FROM: City Attorney SUBJECT: Compensation for Members of the Housing Authority At its meeting on October 22, 1985, the Housing Authority requested that the city Attorney prepare a resolution providing compensation for members of the Housing Authority of the city of Santa Monica. The Housing Authority requested that the level of compensation be set comparable to that currently paid to members of the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Santa Monica. The attached resolution is presented to the Housing Authority for adoption. California Health and Safety Code section 34274 sets forth the limitations on compensation to be paid to members of a city's housing authority: A commissioner shall not be regularlY employed by the authority to which he is appointed during his tenure of office but may receive per diem payment for attendance at not more than four meetings per month of the authority, which - 1 - HA - / IiOY 1 2 1985 . . shall not exceed Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per day, and shall receive necessary traveling and subsistence expenses incurred in the discharge of his duties. Since the Housing Authority requested that the members be compensated in an amount comparable to that currently paid to the members of the Redevelopment Agency of the city of Santa Monica, the specific amount of compensation provided in the attached resolution is less than the maximum allowed by State law for members of the Redevelopment Agency. The amount of compensation provided in the attached resolution represents $25 per member for each meeting, not to exceed $50 per month, plus actual expenses.
