Resolutlon to Approve Appllcation for Hlstoric Preservatlon Grant-
In-Aid for Hlstoric Survey ProJect
Introductlon
ThlS report requests the City Councl1 to approve the attached resolution for
the purpose of applYlng for a matching grant from the State Offlce of Historic
PreservatlOn.
Background
In June, 1981, the City Councl1 authorized $30,000 In the 1981-82 budget for
an Hlstorlc Survey and Hlstoric Preservation Element for the City. The State
Office of Historlc Preservation wlll fund a limlted number of such proJects lf
funds are allocated by the Federal government.
The P1annlng Department has prepared an appllcation to the State Office of
Hlstorlc Preservation for a grant-in-ald ln the amount of $18,500.00.
The matchlng funds requlred under the terms of the grant would be provided from
the funds included in this year1s budget. The City1s expenditures would be reduced
by the amount of any grant received.
The State Offlce of Hlstoric Preservatlon requlres that a resolution of the
Councll be lncluded in the applicatlon package.
Alternative
The City Councl1 may approve or not approve thlS reso1utlon.

Recommendation
It 1S respectfully recommended that the City Council approve the resolution

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
APPROVING THE APPLICATION AND THE PROJECT
AGREEMENT FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION
GRANTS-IN-AID FUND FOR HISTORIC SURVEY PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Congress under PublIC Law 89-665 has authorized
the establishment of a NatIonal Historic Preservation
Grants-In-Aid Program, provIdIng matchIng funds to the State of
CalIfornIa and Its polItical subdivisions for hIstorIC
preservatIon, survey, plannIng, development and acquISItIon
projects; and
WHEREAS, the Stat2 Depart~ent of Parks and RecreatIon IS
responsible for the adminIstratIon of the program within the
state, settIng up necessary rules and procedures governIng
application by local agencies under the program; and
WHEREAS, saId adopted procedures established by the State
Department of Parks and RecreatIon require the applicant to
certIfy by resolution the approval of applications and the
availabillty of local matchlng funds prior to submisslon of sald
applIcations to the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. The C1ty Council approves the f1ling of an
applicat10n for the National Historic Preservation Grants-in-Aid
assistance for the Hlstoric Survey project.
SECTION 2. The CIty Council appo1nts the City Manager or
his author1zed deputy as agent of the City to coordinate, process
and execute all contracts, agreements, amendments and ancillary
documents wIthin the scope of the attached application.
SECTION 3. The City Counc11 agrees that all required local
match1ng funds will be provided for the proJect.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall cert1fy to the adoption of
th1s resolutIon, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
