Ordlnance of the c~ty of Santa Mon1ca
Introductlon
Th~s report transmlts the attached ord1nance for
flrst read1ng and a pub11C hearlng thereon. The ord1nance
1mp1ements certaln modlfications to the Landmark and H1storlC
Deslgnatlon procedures.
Background
At 1tS meetlng of January 10, 1978, the C1ty
Caunell approved, w1th one alterat1on, the recommendat1ons
of the Landmarks COmffilSS10n wlth respect to certa1n changes
1D the t1me requ1rements set forth 1n the above referenced
ordlnance. A copy of the prevlous staff report 15 submltted
herew1th for 1nformat1on purposes.
The ord1nance annexed hereto makes the fo11ow1ng
alterat1ons:
A. The t1me perlod w1thlD Wh1Ch the
D1rector of P1ann1ng lS requlred to make a
pre11ffi1nary recommendat1on concern1ng a
proposed Landmark lS lncreased from thlrty (30)

days to forty-flve (45) days.
B. The tlme frame w1thln WhlCh the
Landmarks Comm1SS1on lS obllgated to take
act10n on a prellmlnary recommendat1on
relat1ve to a proposed Landmark or a
proposed H1storlc Dlstrlct lS extended
from th1rty (30) days to forty-f1ve (45)
days.
C. The t1me per10d wlthln Wh1Ch an
appllcat10n for a proposed Landmark or
proposed Hlstorlc Dlstr1ct may not be
resubmltted or reconsldered 1S lengthened
from one (I) year to ten (10) years. Sald
l1ID1tat1ons do not apply to appllcatlons
resubm1tted by the owner of a subJect
lmprovement proposed for Landmark deslgnatlon
or owners In the subJect area proposed for
H1storic Oistr1ct deslgnatlon.

Recommendatlon
It 15 respectfully recommended that the Clty Councll
