Introduct1.on
This report forwards to the Clty Counell the Plannlng CommlsSlonJs
recommendatlons on arnendlng Sectlon 9129F2 WhlCh would permlt
parklng spaces to be shared by the dlfferent uses In a ffilxed-use
development where these uses have compatlble hours of operatlon
or parking need.

Background,
In adoptlng lts resolution of lntentlon to amend the comprehenslve
land use ordlnance (Resolutlon 6385CCS), the Clty Councll lncluded the
Cltlzens Task Force on Development In Commerclal and Industrlal
Zones rec~mendatlon that In the C2 and C4 commerclal dlstrlcts
the requlred parklng may be reduced In mixed-use development wlth
uses that have compatlble hours of operatlon or parklng need.
The Clty Plannlng CommlSSlon held a publlC hearlng on the matter
on January 4, 1982, at WhlCh no one from the public wlshed to
speak on thlS ltem.
The Cornm~sslon deterrn~ned that SlDce thls shared parklng
prOVlslon would be used on an lndlVldual basls, the proVlslon
should be lncluded In Sectlon 9l29F2 of the Munlcipal Code.

dlstrlct to be ellglble to have shared parklng spaces rather
than belng Ilmlted to only those mlxed use projects In the C2
and C4 zones as lnltlally recommended by the Task Force and Clty
Councll. However, Slnce the concepts and beneflts of shared
parklng and Ulllversal to all types of mlxed use projects, thlS
recommendatlon malntalns tne orlglnal lntent of the Task Force
and Clty Councll.
Recomrnendatlon
It lS respectfully recommended that Sectlon 9129F2 of the Santa
Monlca Munlclpal Code be amended to read as follows (wlth the
addltlonal language In ltallcs) :
Section 9l29F2. Where any bUlldlng contalns
two or more dlfferent uses, parklng requlre-
ments shall be computed for each such use as
requlred by floor area, room, dwelling unlts
or seatlng capaclty, as the case may be, and
the sum of such requlrement for such bUlldlng,
