CHAPTE~ 1 OF ARTICLE IX OF THE
SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL COnE RELATING

DENTAL OFFICES AND ~fiJSEME~T ARCADES
IN THE Ml AND 1'-12 I~mUSTRIAL DISTRICTS
~mEREAS, present zon~ng laws permlt all office uses and
amusement arcades in the Ml and M2 Industrial Distrlcts; and

WHEREAS, locating medlcal and dental offlces and amuse-
ment arcades in the Ml and M2 Districts may dlsplace industrlal
and other more suitable uses fro~ these districts; and
l~~REAS, lt lS unnecessary to locate medical and dental
off~ces or amusement arcades in the HI and M2 ~istrlcts since
suff~cient commercial zoning exists in the Commerc~al Distr~cts
to support anticlpated needs; and
NHEREAS I the pre,posed amendments would prohlbi t the location
of new medical, dental and amuseMent arcade uses ln the Ml and M2
Districts; and
WHEREAS, the proposed amendments are in the public interest
conven~ence, necesslty, general welfare, ~n accordance wlth good
zonlng practice and should be adopted; and
WHEREAS, a public hearlng was held on August 4, 1980 and the
Planning Co~ission considered and recommended the amendments to
the City Cauncll; and
WHEREAS, the City Councll, after a pUblic hearlng concurs
w~th the recommendatlons of the Plannlng COmID1ssion:

The proposed ordinance would prohiblt the locations of new
medlcal, dental and amusement arcade uses in the ~l and M2 Dlstricts.
Medical and dental uses would be allowed in these industrlal areas
only by use permit.
ALTERNATIVES
The Council may accept, reject or aMend the proposed ordlnEnce.
RECON~1E~DATION
It is respectfully recommended the City Council introuuce
thlS ordinance prohibiting medlcal, dental, and amusement arcade
uses ln the Xl and H2 Industrial Distrlcts.
