SUBJECT: Increase of Beach Parking Lot Fee
Introduction
This report recommends the increase of the beach parklng lot fee from
Two Dollars ($2) to Three Dollars ($3) effective July 1, 1981.
Background
The State Department of Parks and Recreation has received approval to increase
the day use fees (parking fee) at State Parks to $3.00. This was undertaken to
provide a means for the L.A. County Department of Beaches to defray a portion of
the operational costs of lifeguard services at State Beach Parks.
The plan devised by the State calls for the increase to be used by the City of
Santa Monica to pay for llfeguards on this beach. Currently the County spends
$850,000 for llfeguard services. The State estimates thO't approximately
$450,000 would be realized by the increase. The Clty and County are now
negotiatlng a formula for the reimbursement without agreeing to a figure at this
time.
Recommendation
The Council approve the fee increase from $2.00 to $3.00.
