Santa 1vbnica Beach and Parking :Wts
Introduction
Tlu..s staff report requests Cotmcil approval of the City Attorney drafting an
anti-glass container ordinance for the Santa Monica State Beach and beach
parkmg lots.
Backgro~
The proliferation of broken glass upon the Santa Monica State Beach and beach
parking lots has risen to alarming proportions. The parking lots and beach
are littered with broken bottles and glass containers each and every morning
throughout the day during the spring and sunmer trotlths. Staff has received
rn.nnerous complaints on this matter and in consultation with the County
Department of Beaches have found that they too suffer a similar problem.
Supervisor Burke is in the process of having an anti-glass container ordinance
prepared for presentation to the Board of Supervisors. Santa 1>bnica, because
of the heavy beach use, should be the frontrunner in the all eviation of this
problem.
RecOlIIIlendation
Staff recwluends that the City Council direct the City Attorney to prepare. an
anti-glass contall1er ordinance for the Santa Nonica State Beach and beach parking
lots.
