Introductlon
ThlS report outllnes a problem frequently encountered In
trying to use the Civic Auditorium for the presentation of
sporting events and recommends CounCll take a temporary
actl.on so
Staff might evaluate the reco~ended solut~on.
Background
Many Permlttees who have presented sporting events at the
CiV1C AudltorlUffi have attrlbuted poor attendance to the lack
of beer serVlce at the Audltorlum. There has been some
indicatlon that certaln Permlttees have not used the faclllty
for thls reason. Staff has been contacted by Mr. Gerald J.
Suflete, representlnq Ahmed Bey, Inc., regarding the presenta-
tlon of a serles of Ilve boxlng events at the Clvic Audltorium
beginnlng on May 24, 1980. However, one of the condltions for
the presentatlon of this serles lS
Councll permit Staff
to contract wlth a llcensed caterer for service of beer at
these events. Revenue to the City for each event, based
on past presentations, should exceed $4,250 per event plus
a percentage of beer serVlce.

Recommendation
Staff recommends Councll allow the serVlce of beer on a trlal
bas~s at thlS proposed boxlng series; direct Staff to contract
wlth a llcensed caterer for such serVlce through the regular
biddlng procedure; and report back to Councll wlth a recommenda-
tion regardlng expandlng thlS service to all sporting events.
