'""; -u w~" €:. ,,_ -0. ~ " - FROM: C~ty Staff SUBJECT: Alcoholic beverage service at the C1V1C Audltorium Introduction ThlS report recommends that Clty Councll approve the sale of alcoholic beverages to the general public at events sponsored by charltable organlzation5 under certaln conditlons hereln described. Background Currently the only alcohollC beverage serVlce allowed at the civic Audltorlurn 15 for excluslvely prlvate events where admlssion 15 by invitation or membership only and the admlS- Slon lS not available to the general publlC. Several charl- table and re11g1ous organizatlon5 have requested they be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages at fund ralslng events. It has become lncreaslngly difficult for many of these organl- zations to raise necessary funding and alcoholic beverage servlce could be an lmportant source of revenue for some organlzatlons. The staff recommends that the Clty'S fee structure be retained for these organlzations as eXlsts for closed events WhlCh 1S $200 per day or 20% of gross sales, whichever 1S greater. ~E JUN 2 6 1979 -- -' e e -2- Recornrnendat~on Staff recommends that City Counc~l d~rect the Clty Attorney to prepare a Resolution which would perwit non-proflt chari- table and rellg~ous organ~zations to sell alcoholic beverages at the Civic Auditorium at fund ra~s~ng events sponsored by that organ~zatlon and in compllance with the regulations of the Alcohol~c Beverage Control Board of the State of Cali- fornla and that the fee charged such organizations for this serVlce be not less than $200 or 20% of the gross sales, wh~chever 15 greater.
