C. The estimates of these costs are $1,400 for shIppIng and $800 for cratIng. The total cost for thIS exhibit IS about $15,000, almost all of which IS beIng raIsed from non-Santa Monica sources. The Arts Commission has only a total budget of $1,700 for exhl bIts. The Coroml SSlon voted to use $500 of that $1,700 for thl s exhi hI t in order to save some of the money for future exhIbItIons, and requests that the CounCIl approprIate the balance to ensure that the planned exhIbit In November will actually take place. Hence, I request that the Council approprIate the necessary $1,700 to pay for the shIpping and cratIng costs for transportIng the murals between Los Angeles and Washington, D. C. These panels, which will be featured in a restrospective exhibi- tion of MacDonald-Wright's artworks at the USC Atelier Gallery, will be on loan from the Smithsonian Institution. At its meeting last night, the Arts Commission considered the possibility of the city's co-sponsorship of this important his- toric exhibition. specifically, the Arts commission expressed its interest in assisting with the costs associated with the tem- porary loan of the mural panels from the Smithsonian. These costs include $800 for crating and $1,400 for shipping (round- trip, Washington, D.C. to Santa Monica) . The Arts CO~~i5sion voted unanimously to allocate $500 of its 1985-86 Professional Services budget in partial support of these - 1 - ~ -vi' ...: e e costs. In addition to these funds, the Arts Commission recommen- ded that City Council allocate $1,700 to defray these expenses. Other sources of support for this exhibition will include the California Arts Council, General Telephone, and the Smithsonian Institution (in-kind contributions). Total costs of this exhibi- tion are expected to total $15,256. However, the USC Atelier Gallery is prepared to pay for these expenses if no additional support comes from the City.
