DISCUSSION: At its meeting of October 11, 1983, the City Council established the pOlicy that, aside from the municipally sponsored Fourth of July fireworks, Council approval would be required for special fireworks events. For its Grand Summer Nights concert programs on July 1, 1990, July 15, 1990 and August 11, 1990, Santa Monica College would like to end each program with a 7-10 minute fireworks display in conjunction with the concerts being held in the Santa f10nica College Stadium. The concerts are scheduled from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. on July 1, 1990, and from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. on July 15, and August 11, 1990. The fireworks displays would begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. in 6-V - 1 - JUN 1 2 '990 -- ~ . - the Stadium. Zambelli Internationa1e will provide the displays for each program. BUDGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACT There is no budgetary/financial impact with this request. Santa Monica College will pay all related inherent costs. OCT 1 0 1989 cal(f~~ki~' '~ - " 5 STAFF REPORT TO: Mayor and City council FROM: City staff RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE SANTA MONICA HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING FIREWORKS DISPLAY SUBJECT: INTRODUCTION This report recommends that the City Council approve Santa Monica High School's request for fireworks for their October 20, 1989, Homecoming Program. DISCUSSION At it's meeting of October 11, 1983, the city Council established the policy that, aside from the municipally sponsored Fourth of July fireworks, Council approval would be required for special fireworks events. For it1s Homecoming program on Friday, October 20, 1989, Santa Monica High School would like to have a five minute fireworks display in conjunction with the festivities at their football game in the Santa Monica college Stadium. The Homecoming Program is scheduled from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., during the half-time festivities.
