Flreworks at Santa Monlca College
Introductlon
ThlS report lS submltted ln response to a formal request of Santa
Monica College, through the Clty'S Event Management Team. to con-
duct a fireworks dlsplay on June 3D, 1985 at the Santa Monlca
College Amphltheater.
Background
At the regularly scheduled meeLing of October II, 1983, the Clty
Councll establlshed a POllCY that, aSlde from the r.1unlclpally-
sponsored Fourth of July flreworks, Councll approval would be
requlred for speclal flreworks events.
Santa MOUlca College has applled, through the C1ty's Event Man-
agement Team, to conduct a fireworks d1sp1ay as part of an annual
Comrnun1ty SerVlce Program salut1ng Independence Day.
(The pro-
gram was not held ln 1984 due to the Olymplcs.)
In the past. the College has met all permit requlrements and
recelved approval for fireworks d1splays from both the F1re De-
partment and Recreat10n and Parks Department.
Th~s event. open
free to the comrnun1ty, 1S annually held the weekend before the
Fourth of July to prevent competing w1th C1ty sponsored events.
