SUBJECT: Fourth of July Flreworks on State Beach
Introductlon:
ThlS report 1S submitted in response to a formal request from The
Beach Club, through the Clty'S Event Management Team, to conduct
a fireworks display on the Fourth of July on Santa Monlca State
Beach.
Background:
At lts regularly scheduled meetlng of October 11, 1983, the Clty
CaunCll establlshed the POllCY that, aSlde from the Munlclpally-
sponsored Fourth of July flreworks, Councll approval would be
requlred for speclal fireworks events.
Durlng the prevlous years In WhlCh The Beach Club has requested
approval for flreworks dlsplays, it has consistently met all C1ty
permlt requlrements. Durlng the last year, the first year ln
which it was required to request Clty Councll approval for lts
display, it requested and was granted Clty Council approval for
lts request for the Fourth of July flreworks event.
ThlS year the Club will agaln meet the requlred Clty safety stan-
dards as establ1shed by the Flre Marshall. The Club wlll also be
requlred to name the Clty as co-insurer on an lnsurance policy
for thlS event WhlCh carries a liabll1ty limit of $5,000,000,

The Event Management Team is referring thlS applicatlon request
to Councl1 for approval.
At its regular meetlng on Apr11 9, 1985 Couucl1 approved a sim~-
lar request from the Jonathan Club.
Budgetary/F~nancial Impact:
There is no budgetary or financial impact associated wlth th~s
report's request.
Recommendatlon:
Staff recommends that The Beach Club be granted permisslon to
conduct the1r tradltlonal Fourth of July flreworks dlsplay upon
meet1ng all Clty insurance and perm~t requirements.
