Recommendation to Approve the Alternate Race Route for
st. Monica's 10K Race
INTRODUCTION
This report presents a lOK race route which is not one of the
official race routes previously approved by the City Council
through the adoption of Resolution 7588. The report describes
the proposed route through the attached race map and requests
city council approval for this route.
BACKGROUND
At their meeting of March 29, 198B, the city council approved an
alternate running racing route as part of the Octoberfest
Celebration for saint Monica's Church.
The Octoberfest
Committee has determined that the route approved on March 29,
1988 is too short for their purpose and has submitted another
route for the October 2, 1988 10K race.
The route has been reviewed by members of the Event Management
Team which determined that the new route does not conflict with
portions of the Marathon Route which was conducted in August,
1988 and meets the criteria of the Running Race Resolution.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING THE HOLDING OF A
RUNNING RACE ON OCTOBER 2, 1988 ON A ROUTE
OTHER THAN THE OFFICIAL CITY ROUTES AND
WAIVING THE $10,000 RACE FEE
WHEREAS, pursuant to Sectlon 15 of Resolution 6688 {CeS}, the City

routes set forth therein,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That on October 2, 1988, between the hours of 7:00 am
and 9:00 am, participants in the St. Monica's IOK Run may and are hereby
authorized to conduct a running race along the following route:
The race will start in Santa Monica at Washington Avenue and Lincoln
Boulevard, proceed east on Washington Avenue to Sixteenth Street,
north on Sixteenth Street to AHa Avenue, east on AHa Avenue to
Twentieth Street) north on Twentleth Street to Marguerita Avenue,
west on Marguerita Avenue to Ninth Street, south on Ninth Street to
Wilshlre Boulevard, west on Wilshire Boulevard to Flfth Street,
south on Fifth Street to Broadway, west on Broadway to Ocean Avenue,
north on the west side of Ocean Avenue to Marguerita Avenue, east on
Marguerita Avenue to fourth Street, south on fourth Street to
Washington Street, east on Washington Street to Alley No. 7 at St.
MonicaJs Church.

SECTION 2. Permission to conduct the running race is granted upon
the following conditions:
A. St. Monica's will pay for and post all signage along the race
route after approval by the City.
B. St. Monlca/s will notify all residents one block east and west
or north and southt as well as along the race routet of the event
and of alternative traffic routes, by first class mailing, after
approval of letter by City.
C. The Santa Monica Pol ice Department will provide the necessary
number of pol ice officers for crowd and traffic control along the
race route and the cost will be paid for by St. Monica's.
D. All barricade and cone rental for marking the course will be
paid for by St. Monica/s.
E. St. Monica's shall provide a certificate of - insurance for
$ltOOOtOOO per individual incident, naming the City of Santa Monica
as an additional insured.
F. St. Monica's will clean up and remove all signage along route
after the race.
G. St. Monica's is exempted from paying the $10tOOO race fee.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of thlS
Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and
effect.
