"1--1' v ,~l 3p'3- 0/6 TO: Mayor and city Council FROM: City staff SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Contract for Construction of Baseball Backstops at Memorial and Marine Parks Introduction This report requests the city Council award a contract for the construction of baseball backstops at Memorial and Marine Parks to Riverside Fence Company, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $24,075.00. Background Council approved funding in FY 90-91 for backstops to be constructed at fields in Memorial and Marine Parks. A Notice Inviting Bids was published on April 8 and 9, 1991 in the Evening Outlook and in four construction journals. Bidding packages were requested by seven contractors and were also forwarded to eight WMBE associations. Bids were received and read publicly on April 29, 1991 by the Deputy city Clerk. The low bidder, Riverside Fence Company, supplied the city with three references. All reported that the contractor's work was satisfactory. Budget/Financial Analysis Funds required: Contract.........................$ 24,075.00 Contingencies....................$ 2,925.00 TOTAL $ 27,000.00 Funds are available in ClF account number 53-740-511-20091-8922-99189, "Replace Baseball Backstop", in the amount of $ 27,000.00. Recommendations It is recommended that the city council: 1. Award a contract for the construction of baseball backstops at Memorial and Marine Parks to Riverside Fence Company, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $ 24,075.00; and 2. Authorize the City Engineer to issue any change orders necessary to complete additional work in conformance with the Administrative Instruction on change orders.
