Health Falr to be held on Aprll 20. 1985. They have requested that
Council approve walving the customary $107.50 fee for the use of the
bUlldlng.

Dear Mayor Reed and Councll Members:
We would 11ke to take thlS opportunlty to thank you
for your ongOlng lnterest and support of L.R.O.'s
program efforts ln the communlty.
Although there has been some improvement ln the utl11-
zation of services by Latlnos, an area which we stl11
find belng underused lS that of health services. A
substantlal percentage of Latlno resldents stlll do
not utllize any of the l~cal health faCl11ties.
In June of 1983 and Aprll of 1984, the Latlno Resource
Organizatlon held the First and Second Annual ~~tino
Health FalrS in Santa Monlca. The purpose of the Falrs
was to:
a. make Lat~no familles aware of the w1de
varlety of health serV1ces ava1lable to
them ln Santa Monica,
b.
provide free examlnations, imrnun~zations,
llterature, and lnrormat10n to me~bers of
the communl ty,

that they were formerly unable to reach.
The Falrs were a great success, wlth more than tWenty
agenC1es partic1patlng and over flve hundred people of
all ethnic backgrounds 1n attendance at each. Many
chl1dren received 1rnmunlzations, had thelr he1ght and
weight checked, thelr teeth examined and were checked
for scol~osis. Some of the ether serV1ces provlded
were blood pressure checks, eye exams, lung tests and
foot exaws. All of the services were provJded free of
charge, and both service provlders and communlty members
"ProJecto Enterar" IS a program of pubhc partiCipatIon, funded by the City of Santa MOnica,
Community Development Block Grant Program.

are plann1ng to hold the Fair on Saturday, April 20, 19~~ at
Virglnl.a Park, and request that the City waive the fee for use
of the Vl.rginia Park Recreatl.ona1 BUl.ldl.ng for that day.
