J ~ J~: ~ 'J Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: city staff SUBJECT: Award of Contract to Install New Roof at the Cultural Arts Building at Memorial Park Introduction This report recommends that the city Council award a contract to install a new roof at the Cultural Arts Building at Memorial Park to J. Cab and Sons Roofing, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $48,306. Background During the 1990-1991 budget process, the City council approved funding to replace the badly deteriorated roof on the Cultural Arts Building at Memorial Park. Plans and specifications were prepared by the city Engineer's office. A Notice Inviting Bids was published on October 15th and 16th, 1990, in the Evening Outlook, and four construction journals, and was sent to eight WHBE Associations. Plans and specifications were issued to fourteen contractors. Bids were received and read publicly on November 20, 1990, by the Deputy City Clerk. six bids were received as follows: J. Cab and Sons Roofing, Inc., supplied the City with three references. All references reported that the contractor's work was satisfactory. Budget/Financial Analysis Contract . FUNDS REQUIRED . . . $ 48,306 contingencies 7,194 Total $ 55,500 Funds are available in CIP account number 01-740-511-20091-8900- 99263, "Replace/Repair Park Building Roofs", in the amount of $55,500. Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council: 1. Award a contract to install a new roof at the Cultural Arts Building at Memorial Park to J. Cab and Sons Roofing, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $48,306.00; and 2. Authorize the city Engineer to issue any necessary change orders to complete additional work in conformance with the Administrative Instruction on change orders.
