RP:DTA:dc e Santa Monlca, caliJlllla, October 2, 1981 302-00z- )O-G OCT 1 :3 1982 TO: ~~yor and City Council FROM: Clty Staff SUBJECT: Donation of Senior Cltlzen Par Course Fltness Cluster by Santa Monica Hospltal ~Introduction This report requests Council acceptance and approval of the donatlon of two Senlor Citizens Fitness Clusters by Par Course Ltd., and their installation at the Senior Center in Palisades Park and at Lincoln Park. Background Santa ~onica Hospltal Medical Center, through Par Course Ltd., contacted staff to develop plans for the installation of the senior citizen fitness clusters. These clusters are designed to allow senior citizens to increase their physlcal fitness through stretch1ng and ~ild physical exercise. They have been deslgned by Par Course Ltd. specifically for seniors but may also be used by other citizens, Santa Monica Hospital Medlcal Center had surveyed the Santa ~onlca area and determined a great interest by seniors 1n this type of facility. The attached letter indicates that the hospital wlll furnish and install these circuits at no expense to the C1ty. The Recreation and Parks Commisslon has held a hearlng at the Senior Center concern1ng th1S 1nstallation. h~ile support was not unanimous at the hear1ng, the COffiffi1ss1on feels that use will answer the questions raised at the hearing, The equ1pment w1ll be located adjacent to the southerly portion of the Senior Center and east of the park office between the tennlS courts and ~iles Playhouse In Llncoln Park. Each of the modules are 30' x 30'. These two sites were chosen because of the senlors at the Center and the Senlor ~utrition Program at L1ncoln Park. Both will be integrated into the regular exercise portions of the progra~s at these sites. )o-C OCT 1 3 1981 TO ~ayor and c1t~uncil Santa Mon1ca, catltorn1a, October 2, 1981 -2- It 1S estimated that the value of the equ1pment and installat10n 1S $20,000.
