SUBJECT: Submlssion of Refunding Application for Nutrition
Program for the Elderly
Introduction
The City of Santa Monic2 has been invited to submit a formal re-
applicatlon for a Nutrition Program for the Elderly under the Older
Americans Act of 1965, as amended. Councll adopted a resolution to
submit the initial application. In accordance wlth regulatio~s from
the California Department of Aging, a new resolution which cOLtains
the exact amount of fund~ng to be received by the C~ty must be
submitted.
Background
The City Councll approved submlssion of an appllcation to provide
federal funding of $140,727 for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly
for twelve months, from July 1, 1980 through June 30, 1981. ~'be City
is operating the Nutrition Program at three City owned park ~ites
(Memorlal, Llncoln and ~arine Parks), as an in-klnd contribution; and,
one site donated by Calvary Baptist Church, 1502 20th Street, also as
in-kind. A food service company is under sub-contract for the prepa-
ration of the food and provides one hot meal per day to a maximum of
250 seniors for a suggested donation. In addition, supporting. serv-
ices are provided as in-kind. The City has contributed $lO,O~O as
cash match as well as the space at the park sites donated as in-klnd
match. The project will be operatlng on a twelve month year, from
July 1, 1981 through June 30, 1982.

Recommendation
City staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached
resolution, thereby indicating its deslre to file an applicatlon
for $132,733 to the Los Angeles County Area on Aging for the
Santa Monica Senior Citlzens Nutrition and Recreation Program and
authorize the Clty Manager to sign accompanying contract on behalf
of Councll.

AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A REAPPLICATION WITH THE LOS ANGELES

ELDERLY UNDER TITLE III OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT OF 1965,
AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has been invited to submit an
application for a nutrit10n program for the elderly by the Los Angeles
~ounty Area Agency on Aging; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica is eligible to rece1ve funds under
the Older Americans Act for the continuation of a nutrition prograw for
the elderly.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager 1S hereby authorized to flle an
appllcat10n and to execute any contracts or subsequent amendments related
thereto, on behalf of theC1ty of Santa Monica w1th the Los Angeles County
Area Agency on Aging for One Hundred Th1rty-Two Thousand, Seven Hundred and
Th1rty-Three ($132,733) Dollars to be used for a nutrition program for the
elderly located at three (3) City park sites and one site (1) at Calvary
Bapt1st Church, 1502 20th Street, Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoptlon of this
resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be 1n full force
and effect.
