SUBJECT: Submission of Application to Amend Existing Nutrition
Program for the Elderly
Introduction
The City of Santa Monica has been invited to submit an
application for additional funds to amend the existing Nutrition
Program for the Elderly under the Older Americans Act of 1965.
as amended. Council adopted a resolution to submit the applica-
tion for existing program funding. In accordance with regula-
tions from the California Department of Aging, a new resolution
which reflects the increased amount of funding to be received by
the City must be submitted.
Background
The City Council approved submission of an application to
provide federal funding of $132,733 for the Nutrition Program
for the Elderly for twelve months. from July 1, 1981 through
June 30. 1982. The City is operating the Nutrition Program at
four City owned park sites (Memorial, Lincoln, Marine and Senior
Recreation Center at Palisades Park), as an in-kind donation and
one site donated by Calvary Baptist Church, 1502 - 20th Street,
also as in-kind. In addition. the City has contributed $10,040
as cash match as well as supporting services as in-kind match.

The amendment to the existing contract will allow for increased
funding in the amount of $3,'1/15 to be used in the purchase of
the following equipment: (1) plain paper copier, (4) stainless
steel utility carts, (5) polyethyline storage boxes. The
amendment will increase the existing program funding to $136,178
for the current contract year~
Recomml9ndation
City staff recommp.nds that the City Council adopt the
attached resolution thereby indicating its desire to file an
amendment application for $3,445 to the Los Angeles County Area
Agency on Aging for the Santa Monica Senior Citizens Nutrition
and Recreation Program and authorize the City Manager to sign
accompanying document on behalf of Council.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING THE FILING
OF AN APPLICATION WITH THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY
AREA AGENCY ON AGING FOR AN ~lliND}mNT TO THE
NUTRITION PROGRfu~ FOR THE ELDERLY UNDER
TITLE III OF THE OLDER ~1ERICANS ACT OF 1965,
AS A'1ENDED.
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has submitted an appli-
cation for amendment of the Nutrition Program for the elderly to
the Los Angeles County Area Ag~ncy on Aging; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica is eligible to receive
funds under the Older Americans Act for the establishment of a
Nutrition Program for the elderly; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has received approval
from the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging to administer
the additional one time only funds in the amount of Three Thousand,
Four Hundred, Forty-Five ($3,445) Dollars as an amendment to the
existing contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1,
That the City Manager, or in his absence, the
Assistant City Manager, is authorized to file an application and to
eXecute any contracts related thereto, on behalf of the City of
Santa Monica with the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging for
One Hundred Thirty-Six Thousand, One Hundred Seventy-Eight ($136,178)
Dollars to be used for a Nutrition Program for the elderly,

SECTION 2.
The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
