SUBJECT: Re-Submission of RefundiuR Application for Nutrition
Program for the Elderly

Introduction
The City of Santa Monica has been informed that a formal
re-application for a Nutrition Frogra~ for the Elderly must be
submitted reflecting the revised level of funding. Council
adopted a resolution to submit the o~iginal application, as
well as the application for funding submitted in May of this
year. In accordance with regulations from the California
Department of Aging, a new resolution which contains the exact
amount of funding to be received by the City must be submitted.

At the Council meeting on Hay 11, 1982 Council approved
submission of application to provide federal funding of $134,473
for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly for twelve months from
July 1, 1982 through June 30, 1983. An emergency meeting was
called by the County Area Agency on Aging on Monday, June 7,1982,
at which time staff was informed that the level of funding for
fiscal year 1982-1983 would be cut from the earlier negotiated

through the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging were
informed that the cuts were the result of early miscalculations
on the part of the California Department of Aging. Programs
were instructed to re-submit applications based on the new
funding levels. The funding Agency is considering an award of
$81,409.
Recommendation
City staff recommends that the City Council adopt the
attached resolution, thereby indicating its desire to file an
application for $81,409 to the Los Angeles County Area Agency on
Aging for the Santa Monica Senior Citizens Nutrition and Recre-
ation Program and authorize the City Manager to sign the contract,

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SA1:fTA MONICA AUTHORIZnm THE FILING
OF A REAPPLICATION WITH THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY
AREA AGENCY ON AGING FOR A NUTRITION PROGRAI1
FOR THE ELDERLY UNDER TITLE III OF THE OLDER
Al1ERICANS ACT OF 1965, AS Al'1ENDED.
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles Department of Senior
Citizens Affairs has been awarded the funds for providing ser-
vices for the elderly under the Older Americans Act;
~~, the City of Santa Monica wishes to apply for
Older Americans Act funds for nutrition and social services, in
order to administer said se~Tices; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the City of Santa Monica
approve the submittal of a proposal for Older Americans Act
funds; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the City of Santa Monica
designate and authorize a representative to sign the contract
for Older Americans Act funds on behalf of City Council.
NOW, THF.REFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAl-ITA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That the City Manager is hereby autho-
rized to file an application and to execute any contracts or
subsequent amendflents related thereto, on behalf of the City of

Santa Monica with the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging
for Eighty One Thousand Four Hundred and Nine ($81,409) Dollars
to be used for a nutrition program for the elderly located at
four (4) City park sites.
SECTION 2.
The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
