SUBJECT: Subrn~ssion of Grant Appl~cation for Sen~or Nutrition &
Recreation Program
Introductlon
Th~s report recommends that the City Counc~l adopts the attached
resolut~on author~zing the subm~ttal of a proposal to the Los
Angeles County Area Agency on Ag~ng for funding ~n the amount of
$152,526 and author~zing the C~ty Manager to s~gn a contract for
providing serV1ces to the elderly through the C1ty's Senlor
Nutr~t~on and Recreat~on Program.
Background
The City of Santa Monica has been sponsor~ng the Sen~or Nutrit~on
.-~
and Recreat~on Program for the past elght years; each year the
City 1S required to submit an application for grant mon1es.
The followlng description of the proJected costs and revenues for
the Sen10r Nutrition and Recreation Program ~ndlcates that
$87,488 w~ll be needed from the City's General Fund and $12,000
from Proposit~on A Transportation funds.

The $152,526 applled for ~n the Grant to the Los Angeles County
Area Agency on Aglng represents an lncrease of $4,928 for the
congregate nutrltion program as well as $63,400 for the home de-
llvered meals program.
An increase of $9,066 is needed from the City's General Fund due
to lncreased salarles, beneflt costs and food costs.

The C~ty operates the Nutr~tion Program at ~our sltes: Llncoln
I
Park, Memorlal Park, the Senior Recreation Center and Vlrginla
Avenue Park. A food serVlce company is under sub-contract to
provlde 225 hot meals per serv~ng day as well as 68 home dellv-
ered meals per servlng day.
In addition, the nutrltlon van pro-
vides 8,000 units of transportatlon each year to the nutrltlon
program, grocery store, medlcal appolntments and recreatlon
actlvit~es.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolu-
tlon authorizlng the submlttal of a proposal to the Los Angeles

SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF A PROPOSAL

WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles Department of Senior Citizens
Affalrs has been awarded the funds for provldlng serVlces for the elderly
under the Older Americans Act;
WHEREAS, the Clty of Santa Monlca wishes to apply for Older
Amerlcans Act funds for soclal serVlces in order to administer said
serVlces; and
WHEREAS, lt lS necessary that the Clty of Santa Monica approve
the submlttal of the proposal for Older Amer1cans Act funds; and
~~EREAS, lt is necessary that the City of Santa Monlca deslgnate
and author1ze a representatlve to slgn the contract for Older Amerlcans
Act funds on ~alf of the sald Clty of Santa Monlca,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA I
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTICN 1. The City Council of the Clty of Santa Monlca approves
the Submlttal of a proposal for Older Amerlcans Act funds.
SECTION 2. The Clty Council of the City of Santa Monlca deslgnate
the Clty Manager or ln hlS absence, the ASSlstant Clty Manager as the
authorlzed representative to sign the contract and all documents necessary
to accompany said contract, lncluding all amendments to sald contract
wlthin the flscal year.
SECTION 3. The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
thlS Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA'MONICA AUTHORIZING THE
SUBMITTAL OF A PROPOSAL AND THE SIGNING OF
A CONTRACT FOR PROVIDING SERVICES FOR
ELDERLY PERSONS
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles Department of Senior

said services; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the City of Santa Monica ap-

funds; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the City pf Santa Monl.ca

Older Americans Act funds on behalf of the said City of Santa
Monica,
