SR-302-001 (20) . . ,,- M OCT 2 8 198~ 302.-00/ RP:DTA:EA:brj Council Meeting: October 28, 1986 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City staff SUBJECT: senior Nutrition and Recreation Program Budget changes, Fiscal Year 1986-87 INTRODUCTION This report recommends that the city Council approve the transfer of various FY 1986-87 funds for the Senior Nutrition and Recreation Program. BACKGROUND The Senior Nutrition and Recreation Program operates through funding provided by the city of Santa Monica and the Los Angeles Area Agency on Aging. The 1986-87 grant funds received were not of the amount originally anticipated in the City budget due to a decrease in funding for the Home Delivered Meals program. This change will decrease the number of home delivered meals served from 24,820 to 20,075 or from 68 to 55 meals a day. This will have no effect on the program as we are currently serving 95% of the revised capacity of 55 meals a day. Based on the number of meals served through october 1986 there is sufficient flexibility to increase the number of meals served if the demand increases. The budget must be revised to reflect the actual program funding received by the Area Agency on Aging and the resulting program changes. The accounts that are affected by this change are listed on the attached Exhibit A. {q-M OC1 18 \M. . . BUDGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACT The recommended changes would result in a decrease in the City's contribution to the program from $83,613 to $68,960, a total decrease of $14,653 over the original estimate. RECOMMENDATION staff recommends that City Council approve the account changes as recommended in the staff report to reflect the approved budget allocation by the Los Angeles county Area Agency on Aging.
