October 4, 1977 . ~r, 302--00/ TO: Mayor and Oi ty Oouncil City Staff Submission of Supplemental Application for Title VII Nutrition Program for the Elderly OCT 1 1 '517 FROM: SUBJECT: Introduction: The City of Santa Monica has been invited to submit a request for supplemental funds for a Nutrition Program for the Elderly under Title VII of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as ~ended. Oouneil adopted a resolution to submit the initial application. In accordance with regulations from the California Depa.t:LlIlent of Aging, a new resolution which contains the exact amount of funding to be received by the Oity must be submitted. Background: The City Council approved submission of an application to pro- vide federal funding of 1112,552 for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly for twelve months, from September 1, 1977, to June 30, 1978. The City is operating the .Title VII Nutrition Program at three City owned park sites (Memorial, Lincoln and Marine Parks). as an in-kind contribution. A ~ood seL.vice compl'lny is under sub-contract for the preparation of the food and provides one hot meal per day to a rn;n;rnu:m of 200 elderly persons for a suggested donation. In addition, supporting services are pro- vided as in-kind. There is no direct cost to the City inasmuch as the local match is reflected as in-kind space at the park sites which will be no expense to the project. The funding agency is con- sidering an additional award of S 12,159 to increase the meals served per day from 200 to 250. Recomm",odation: City starr recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution, thereby indicating its desire to rile a supplemental application for 6 12,159 to the California Department of Aging for the Santa Monica Senior Citizen Nutrition and Recreation Program..
