C / Submission of Refunding Application for Title VII Nutrition Program for the Elderly Introduction The City of Santa Monica has been invited to submit a formal re- application for a Nutrition Program for the Elderly under Title VII of the Older Americans Act 0= 1965, as amended. In August, 1976 Council adopted a resolution to submit the initial applicatfon. In accordance with regulations from the California Department of Aging, a new resolution ~hich contains the exact amount of funding to be received by the City must be submitted. Backf,round The City Council approved submission of an application to provide federal funding of Sl24,7ll for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly for twelve months, from July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978. The City is operating the Title VII Nutrition Program at four sites' three City-owned park sites (Memorial, Lincoln, and }1arine Parks), as an in-kind contribution; and, one site donated by Calvary Baptist Church, 1502 - 20th Street, also as in-kind. A food service company is under sub-contract for the preparation of the food and provides one hot meal per day to a minimum of 250 seniors for a suggested donation. In addition, supporting services are provided by the City. There is no direct cost to the City since the local match is re- fleeted as in-kind space at the park sites. The funding agency is considering an award of $147,553 Recommendation City staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution, thereby indicating its desire to file an application for $147,553 to the Los Angeles County Area on Aging 'for the Santa Monica Senior Nutrition and Recreation Program, Prepared by. SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to file an application and to execute any contracts related thereto, on behalf of the City of Santa Monica with the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging for One Hundred Forty Seven Thousand, Five Hundred Fifty Three ($147,553) Dollars to be used for a nutrition program for the elderly and located at three (3) City park sites a~d one site at Calvary Baptist Church, 1502 - 20th Street, Santa Monica. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the .. ..... RPD 4-3-78 - e same shall be in full force and effect.
