The Clty of Santa Monica has been 1nvlted to submlt a formal reapplicatlon for
a Nutrition Program for the Elderly under the Older Americans Act of 1965, as
amended. Council adopted a resolut1on to submit the in1t1al application. In
accordance with regulations from the Callfornia Department of Aging, a new
resolut1on which contains the exact amount of funding to be recelved by the Clty
must be submitted.
Background
The C1ty Council approved submiss10n of an appllcatlon to provide federal
fundlng of $162,434 for the Nutr1tion Program for the Elderly for twelve months,
from July 1. 1978 to June 30, 1979. The City lS operating the Nutritlon
Program at four sites: three City owned park sites (Memorial, L1ncoln and
Mar1ne Parks), as an 1n-kind contribution; and, one slte donated by Calvary
Baptist Church, 1502 20th Street, also as in-k1nd. A food service company lS
under sub-contract for the preparation of the food and provides one hot meal
per day to a maXlmum of 250 sen10rs for a suggested donat1on. In add1tion,
supporting services are prov1ded as in-klnd. There is no direct cost to the
C1ty Slnce the local match is reflecteu as 1n-k1nd space at the park sites. The
prOJect will be operatlng on a twelve-month year, from July 1. 1979, through
June 30, 1980. The funding agency is considering an award of $162,434.

Recommendation
City staff recommends that the C1ty Council adopt the attached resolutlon,
thereby lndicat1ng 1ts des1re to file an application for $162,434 to the Los
Angeles County Area on Ag1ng for the Santa Monlca Sen10r C1tizens Nutrition
and Recreatlon Program and authorize the City Manager to sign accompanying
contract on behalf of Counc1l.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZllm
THE FILING OF A REAPPLICATION WITH
THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY AREA AGENCY ON
AGING FOR A NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR THE
ELDERLY UNDER TITLE III OF THE OLDER
AMERICANS ACT OF 1965, AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has been invited
to submit an application for a nutrition program for the
elderly by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica is eligible to
receive funds under the Older Americans Act for the continuation
of the nutrition program for the elderly.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY CO'L'NCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That the City Manager is hereby
authorized to file an application and to execute any contracts
related thereto, on behalf of the City of Santa Monica with the
Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging for One Hundred Sixty
Two Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty-Four ($162,434) Dollars to be
used for a nutrition program for the elderly located at three (3)
City park sites and one site (1) at Calvary Baptist Church,
1502 - 20th Street, Santa Monica.
SECTION 2.
The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of th~s resolut~on, and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
