SUBJECT: Appropriation for Senior Nutrit10n Funds 1980-81
Introduction
Th1S report requests that the City Council approoriate in the City's 1980-81 budget
those funds received from Federal Grants for the Senior Citizens Nutrition Program.
The total amount of funds to be added to the 19SO-81 budget is 5235,150.
Background
The City Council authorized City staff to file an application for funds under the
Older Americans Act for the nutrition program in April 19S0. Further City Council
action on July 22, 1980, authorized an addit10nal expenditure of funds (up to $19,500)
to cover 1ncreased food costs of the caters bid.
In orevious years, this grant was not included as part of the annual City budget. The
speclflc amount of the grant was not aval1able at the tlme of budget submittals. In
order to be in orooer accordance with the Charter, all funds should be appropriated
by the City Council and be placed on the budget. There are no Gann budget limitation
effects.
Appropr1ation of funds for necessary expenditures in the following areas would be
salaries - $66,271; suppl1es & expenditures - $156,632 and equipment $2,247 for a
total of $235,150 Revenue estimates for the 1980-81 fiscal budget should also
be increased by $235,150 of which $225,110 is matching funds (federal - $140,727,
project income - $57,400, U.S.D.A. - $26,983) and $10,040 WhlCh will be directly
appropriated from the general fund reserve.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council appropriate the amount of 5235,150 for the
Sen10r Citizen Nutrition Program so that it may De included in the 1980-81 budget,
and to also 1ncrease the revenue estimate by $235,150 as outlined in the staff report,
