INTRODUCTION
ThIS report recoITJT,ends tha t the Cl ty Coune 11 approve the alloea-
tlon of an addItIonal $4,000 In Con~unlty Developffient Block Grant
(CDBG) funds to cover the cost of publIC works proJects such as
street lIght InstallatIon and SIdewalk repair for low and ffioder-
ate Ineon,e reSIdents.
BACKGROOND
On May 29, 1985 CIty CounCIl approved the PublIC Works ASSIstance
ProgranL for FIscal Year 1985-86 In the aIT,ount of $4,000 In CDBG
funds.
These funds have been earn.arked to pay for the cost of
publIC works assessn,ents for the InstallatIon of street lIghts
and SIde walk repaIr for low and moderate InCOffie reSIdents.
DISCUSSION
The projected expendI tures for thIS program were based on the
aIT,ount spent In FY1984-85 plus an addItIonal $2,0!iHL
However,
due to an Increase In approved street lIghtIng dIstrIcts, there
has been a larger response to the program than expected, exceed-
Ing preVlous proJectIons. The current allocatIon IS not adequate

to sustaIn the current level of assIstance for the reuLainder of
the fIscal year.
The alTlOunt requested wIll provide suffICIent
fundIng for the balance of the fIscal year and wIll enable the
program to respond to reSIdents' needs.
BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT
Currently there IS $4,@00 appropriated for thIS program In CDBe
Account #01-200-262-728-711.
The requested addl tlonal funds of
$4,0013, are avaIlable In the CDBG ProJect ContIngency Fund Ac-
count #131-200-262-728-774.
RECOMMENDATION
CIty staff recoulDLends that the CIty CounCIl:
1. Approve the transfer of CDBG ContIngency Funds from
Account #01-200-262-728-774 to PublIC Works Assess-
D,ent Ass 1 stance Prograu. Account #131-21313-262-728-
711.
2. Approve the subsequent an,endDLent to the CDBG State-
ment of ObJectIve for subnllsslon to the U.S. De-
partnent of HOUSIng and Urban Development, Increas-
Ing the PublIC Works Assessn,ent ASSIstance Progran,
frOTh $4,131313 to $8,000.
