Background In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published september 18 and 19, 1989) to furnish and deliver outlet boxes, switch boxes and connectors in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on October 17, 1989. Proposal forms were mailed to twenty vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Four proposals were received as follows: Cost of a representative array of outlet boxes, switch boxes and connectors: FMS Electronics (WMBE) $59,312.89 $76,719.72 $86,757.25 $100,723.79 1,--5 Nov 1 4 1989 Brandon Industrial (WMBE) Graybar Electrical superb Electric - 1 - ~~e items covered~ this bid include variouJltypes and sizes of outlet boxes, switch boxes and connectors. Upon request from the user departments, these items will be dispensed. The reason for the wide spread in the above quoted prices is due to the city requirement for firm prices for one-year. Currently, the electrical market is unstable and prices have fluctuated. Several bidders have elevated prices based on estimated future market trends. Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City specifications. Budget/Financial Impact Fiscal Year 1989/90 appropriation authority for this purchase is in the maintenance accounts of various departments. As the materials are drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed against available FY 1989/90 appropriation authority. Recommendation It is recommended that the award of Bid #2250 be made to Brandon Industrial at specified unit prices, plus applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder. Prepared By: E. O.
