Executive Summary
Award of bid to furnish and deliver eight automated refuse trucks with Wayne body to
Boerner Truck Center, in the total amount of $1,864,359.44, including applicable sales
tax, funded by contributions from the Solid Waste Fund to the Vehicle Replacement
Program.
Discussion
Backqround
The automated side loader refuse trucks are used by Solid Waste Management
personnel for collecting trash, recyclables, and landscape waste. They will replace
vehicles scheduled for replacement and funded through the Vehicle Replacement
Program. Solid Waste vehicles are among the heaviest used vehicles in the City's fleet.

Vendor Selection
In January 2006, the City published Notices Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver eight
automated refuse trucks in accordance with City specifications. Bids were received and
publicly opened and read on February 9, 2006. Bid forms were mailed to sixty-one
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal
Code provisions. Two vendors provided a variety of options. The most relevant bids
received are as follows:

Bids were evaluated based on competitive pricing, body type, and additional available
options. Based upon these criteria, Boerner Truck. Center is the best company to
provide the most efficient and appropriate truck to meet all of the City's needs. The
comparable Carmenita bid is lower in price but does not offer the benefits of
maneuverability, operator comfort, ergonomics, and dealer support.
